Threads Youth Fashion & Identity Program is a 16-week program running October 2024 to March 2025 for high school-age youth (13-19) where students use fashion design and sewing skills education as a lens to discuss personal expression, gender, and sexuality with the goal of helping youth on their journey of self discovery. 

Fashion design activities are taught by Project Runway All Stars’ Sam Donovan and fashion designer Rufus Dixon, introducing students to fashion sketching, sewing fundamentals, and preparing for the runway.

FAQs

  • No! All of our students will receive full scholarships thanks to our sponsors.

  • Nope! We provide space for everyone to learn at the level they’re at. From beginner to more advanced, you’ll be sure to build new skills in Threads!

  • Our 2024-25 program will run on Monday evenings from 6 to 8 PM starting with our kickoff retreat on Saturday, October 26, 2024 and first class on Monday, October 28. Our last class will be on Monday, March 17 followed by our Threads Youth Fashion Showcase (tentative date: Sunday, March 23).

  • Don’t let the application scare you away from the program! We have to have an application process in case we have more people interested in the program than we can accept, as there are a limited number of seats (well, sewing machines) for this program.

  • This is a program for all high-school-age students interested in learning more about themselves and how to support each other. While Love Your Labels specifically focuses our work on supporting LGBTQ+ youth, we recognize we’re all in different stages of our life journey and we don’t exclude based on identity.
